I will open my mouth in a parable: I will utter dark sayings of old:
Which we have heard and known, and our fathers have told us. We will not
hide them from their children, shewing to the generation to come the praises
of the LORD, and his strength, and his wonderful works that he hath done.
For he established a testimony in Jacob, and appointed a law in Israel,
which he commanded our fathers, that they should make them known to their
children:
That the generation to come might know them, even the children which should
be born; who should arise and declare them to their children: That they
might set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep his
commandments: And might not be as their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious
generation; a generation that set not their heart aright, and whose spirit
was not stedfast with God.
Psalm 78:2-8
This scripture spells out very clearly, God's vision for fathers. Here God outlines the responsibility He places on fathers to pass on to their children; 1. The praises of the Lord, 2. His strength, 3. And His wonderful works. Fathers must instill these truths in their children so that they can pass them on to their children. Then their children will pass them on to the next generation and the godly generation continues. This is the vision God expects fathers to catch. It is the Lord's vision for fathers to pass on this Godly heritage so that future generations will; 1. Set their hope in God, 2. Not forget His works, 3. Keep His commandments.
A Father's Vision is written to be an encouragement to fathers who are sincerely seeking to follow God's ways and rear a Godly generation of children. This path will not be taken by every father. God is the one in control. He is the one who places this burning desire in the heart of a father. It's a desire to follow Him and give everything to make a difference in this world for Jesus' sake. It's a desire to rear children mighty in Spirit and strong in the Lord. This burning desire overwhelms a father with an urgency to prepare his family for what lies ahead. Noah was a father who caught a Godly vision for his family and the world around him. God shared with him specific instructions on how to prepare for the coming judgment. Noah stands out as an example to Christian fathers today. Christian fathers can be just like Noah by finding specific instructions from God right now from His Word. This is an urgent matter. There is no time to waste. Preparation is essential. Jesus said in Luke 17:26-27, "And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man. They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all." Our adversary, the Devil, with his deceptive attack has rendered Christians powerless in our society. Why? Christians have slowly bought in to the Devil's lies and are no longer "salt and light" in this world. God, however, says in 2 Chronicles 16:9, "For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him." God is looking for fathers who will catch the vision He has for fathers. He will raise up a mighty generation of our children that will advance His kingdom in these last days. Isaiah 59:19 proclaims, "So shall they fear the name of the LORD from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the LORD shall lift up a standard against him." A Father's Vision is written for fathers who desire to see their children numbered in that "standard" the Lord lifts up against the enemy. This is one of those impossibilities that can only be achieved through Him (Jesus). Remember Genesis 6:8 when your vision from the Lord grows dim or you lose focus and you simply get overwhelmed in the battle with the world, the flesh and the Devil, "But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD." It's His grace that took Noah all the way and His grace will see you through to accomplish your vision for your family.
